Substantiation of this Report is minimal at best; I am not familiar with other persons researching this area of southern Wisconsin. My own investigations at Rutland Gate began in the autumn of 2014[1] [2] [3]and ended in the spring of 2015; I have not returned since then. There are no published reports for Green, Jefferson, Rock, or Walworth Counties on the BFRO website,[4] although two reports each for adjacent Dane and Waukesha Counties are available.[5] [6] Nonetheless, a cursory review of same suggests considerable activity in this region.

The combination of physical, visual, audible and/or olfactory events described in this Report are:

  1. The eerie, almost unnatural silence in the woods, when I first arrived;
  2. The first glimpse of red eye-shine, observed near the main path;
  3. The observation of several small, white lights moving about;
  4. The second glimpse of red eye-shine at the top of the ridge;
  5. The sound of slow, deliberate footsteps pacing back and forth;
  6. The series of strange, flashing lights observed in the woods;
  7. The loud, thumping noise, heard in the woods;
  8. The sound of rocks, falling on the pavement;
  9. The foul, unpleasant odour which then dissipated rather quickly.

These behaviours, and the history of my own experiences, may be considered sufficient to suggest the presence of EC [7] at Rutland Gate, in the winter of 2014.

An unusual number of subjective events also occurred. While these cannot be considered conclusive evidence, neither should they be discounted. Although it is reasonable to review the impact of non-objective stimuli in this Report, such effects, while personally quite vivid and at times overwhelming, are nonetheless nearly impossible to substantiate with any measure of certainty.
