Substantiation of this Report, and the creature observed therein, may be provided by numerous BFRO reports posted online; although I did not realise it at the time, several sightings were reported in Wisconsin and Illinois in 1978. Although the famous “Murphysboro Monster” first made its appearance in 1973, it was reported again in 1978 as well. It should be noted, for the purposes of this Report, that a lack of reported sightings should not be presumed as a lack of same.  I, personally, did not realise what I might have seen, for many years, and, quite frankly, I’m still rather shocked by it.

1. In April 1978, a report of tree-shaking, vocalisations, rock throwing and other EC-related behaviour was reported in Jackson County, Illinois.

2. In the summer of 1978, a young couple parked in their car were terrified by a loud howl or scream, in Macoupin County, Illinois.

3. In addition, that summer, two youths had a strange, unsettling encounter in Sangamon County, Illinois.

4. A daytime sighting of a very large, dark-haired EC was reported in Madison County, Illinois, in October 1978. The witness described the EC with some detail, and mentioned a curious fact: that he had heard of previous sightings reported near Alton (also in Madison County). It should be noted, for the purposes of this Report, that Madison County is an extremely active area, with sightings and encounters reported there since 1973 or thereabouts (and probably earlier).

5. A possible sighting was reported in Barrington, Illinois in the spring of 2008; Barrington is located in the far southwest corner of Lake County, adjacent to several large forest preserves.

6. Recently, several possible footprints were discovered near a house in the village of Beach Park, in March 2013; Beach Park is less than five minutes away, by automobile.

There is no direct, corresponding proof for this Report; I did not take a photograph of the creature as it passed by the house, nor did I think to do so. It happened so fast, and so suddenly; I did not think of it, until years later. While my friends’ corroboration of these events may be considered of some value, it is not proof, merely anecdotal.
